Headed to Auction

My painting "Amber Violin" is flying out to the University of Tulsa today. It will be in a silent auction to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Sooner Chapter and The School of Music at The University of Tulsa. They're having a big "End of the World" party (thank you, Mayans) this Friday.

You can still get a copy of this painting on a note card from my Etsy shop. www.artbylyndel.etsy.com

"Amber Violin" is acrylic on canvas. It is gallery wrapped meaning the edges are covered with canvas and painted too so it doesn't have to have a frame. It is 10x10 inches and 1 1/2" deep. The first thing you'll notice in the background is the gold filigree but if you look closely you'll see the melody to Beethoven's Violin Concerto.

Winter Haven Note Card

I made some note cards using a picture of my acrylic painting I called "Winter Haven."

You can purchase note cards from my on-line art shop at www.artbylyndel.etsy.com

I'll print some of these with a Christmas verse so people can use them for a Christmas cards.

You can use this greeting or write your own.

May the warmth of the season
The love of family
The laughter of friends
Fill your heart this Christmas.

Merry Christmas!

A Sign for my Show

I realized that I don't have a sign up at the bank telling people who the artist is, so I made this one.

The thought of a plain white piece of paper with my name on it seemed so.... boring.

Rhapsody

Is it possible to make music without making a sound? I think that may be possible with art. Some art creations just "sing."

Here's the story behind my latest work.

I like making art with a musical connection. My latest "musical" art creation began several years ago. I had an old upright piano. I don't really remember how I came into possession of it. I lived in Whites Creek at the time. It had been painted several times. I spent days taking off the many layers of paint and underneath them all was a beautiful walnut (at least that color) wood.

The piano lived a couple of different lives. After taking out the cast-iron harp it was much easier to move around so for awhile it was a computer desk. The computer keyboard went where the pianos keys were (I had taken them all off) and the monitor sat where the music would go. For a little while it was a headboard but eventually my lovely wife said it took up too much room and it was banished to the carport.

I decided to take it apart. Some of the wood was loosing it's veneer. Some was missing. I decided to rescue parts that I thought I could do something with some day and the rest ended up with some lighter fluid and a match. All that was left were screws laying in the ashes.

As I was preparing for my art show at Planters Bank I decided I had to make something I had pictured in my mind for years. I needed a big "WOW" piece for the show. Here's what I came up with. I named it "Rhapsody" - thinking of that beautiful piece"Rhapsody in Blue" by Gershwin. I didn't want to add the "in Blue" because I wanted people to think "in blue" without me obviously  pointing it out. There are five lines of lead. (the blue is the spaces)

I wish glass photographed better. The beauty of stained-glass can't be captured on film.

You really should go by Planters Bank on Madison St. (if you live in Clarksville) and see it for yourself.

My art show there opened at 10:00. By 11:15 I had one man take a picture of it to take home to his wife to convince her that they should buy it and another couple came in, talked about it for just a moment and then wrote me a check for it. (Thanks again, Tony and Beverly)

Beverly took a picture of me next to "Rhapsody" and then e-mailed it to me.

Now I want to get on Craigslist or Ft. Campbell Yard Sales and look for another piano!

You can see "Rhapsody" if you go to Planters Bank before the end of September.

Note Cards

I've seen note cards on Etsy from artists who turn their paintings into cards. Michelle at Planters Bank told me that other artists who have had shows there sold similar things, so I thought I'd give them a try.
Oooo. I really like how they turned out. I'll be putting them up in my Etsy shop over the next few days. If you live in Clarksville you can stop by the Planters Bank Madison St. branch, see them in person and pick out a few to take home. Some people buy them to write notes to send out. Some people buy them and frame them to hang their walls or to sit on a sofa table.

Leave a comment if you would like more information or would like to buy some before I get them in my Etsy shop.

Art Interpretation

I don't claim to be a great interpreter of art, but I've found it interesting to see how others interpret art. I recently posted this picture on FaceBook. I said I hadn't thought of a name for it and wondered what others would name it.
That's where I saw how others interpreted my painting.

Here are some of the names people suggested.
Werewolf's Dream
God's Handiwork
Moon
Moon Dance
God's Promise
Blue Moon
God's Eye
Dream Time
Days Ahead

So what was my original thought?
I suppose it doesn't matter and ideally, a painting should allow you to put your thoughts into it.
OK. So I'll tell you.
It was a sunrise with the sun cutting through the morning fog. Oh well. I suppose it looks a lot like a moon.

Hydrangeas in an Orange Vase

Wow! A bold splash of color can perk up any room and "Hydrangeas in an Orange Vase" has tons of color.

The juxtaposition of colors directly across from each other on the color wheel give this painting a big WOW factor. Does your mother-in-law's house depress you every time you walk through the door (and I'm just kidding about all of this) then this painting would be the perfect gift for her since it will bring a smile to your face and brighten your day every time you see it.

Here it is in my kitchen. (Yes. I hand-painted polka-dots on the walls.) It looks great here, but will look good on your walls too.

Here's a close-up so you can see the brush work.

Check it out in my Etsy shop.
